So, you can keep this site bookmarked. It will probably be less cluttered and busy.

05/11 : Looking at this Loss Philosophically
That said, I believe that we must not do what got us to this place: copying the Democrats by launching a four-year squealing marathon about being victims and calling the new president names and filing false charges every other day. We need to go back to the drawing board and start reclaiming our conservative principles. We also must give up our conservative tendency to zone out until the next election. Start working to elect conservatives at every level of your government! Start plotting those wins NOW! If we just go back to watching the boob tube and licking our wounds, things will only get worse.
We are now under one-party rule. This is not a good thing. Mistakes are going to be made. We can only capitalize on them if we stay alert and educate the public. After all, it was a closer race than it looks.

31/10 : It's Only Self-Government When Your Self Starts Governing
Since Conservatives do not believe in the power of government, they do not participate until they absolutely have to. By then, there are few choices. The candidates are the people who have laid the groundwork to get on the ballot. Most of them are liberals. Liberals believe in the power of government, so they work at it 24/7, 365 days a year. Achieving political power is their life. To us, it's little more than a hobby.
Both major parties are made up the people who care enough to go to the meetings. If you are a Democrat, and you are disgusted with what happened to your party over the past 50 years, you probably have no one to blame but yourself. The Communists have taken over because they have used their Constitutional rights all year long: they have assembled, they have spoken out, they have worked the system; all this why we stayed home and watched sitcoms and pontificated among ourselves about how wrong the left was.
If you are a Republican, and you see your party as a bunch of uninspired appeasers, remember that these are the people who cared enough to represent you while you whined and complained from the comfort of your own couch or bar stool.
We need more candidates who are willing to defend liberty at the local level. Regardless of which major party you have bailed out of, you need to get back in. Run as a major party candidate. Give your liberty-minded neighbors something to choose! And that means you will have to take the long view and get involved all year long. Kiss Ross and Rachel and Raymond and Jerry and Kramer good-bye and start taking your country back close to home.
I am voting for John McCain because I cannot let Barack Obama win. I don't like John McCain very much, but it's my way of dragging my feet against the slide to totalitarianism. The rest of the year, I am still trying to get my friends to give up their slothful ways.

25/09 : Why I am voting for John McCain
- He is unquestioningly for his country first. In a world we were are constantly berated by inferior nations and expected to apologize for being a haven for their ex-patriots, John McCain puts our national interests first. That is getting harder to find, especially in Congress.
- He has been tested in horrendous circumstances and has passed the test. Granted, this makes it harder for the average self-absorbed, spoiled American voter to identify with him, but it's been a long time since I could admire an American leader for his actual courage. And we may need a man who can stare Vladimir Putin in the eye without blinking, or feeling like he has to suck up to him.
- He believes that government must be limited, even though he does not limit it enough for my taste. He finds true North more often than most of his colleagues.
I cannot vote for Barack Obama for the following reasons:
- Four years ago he was an Illinois State Senator who made a great speech. That was his resume. And since the day after that speech, he has been grooming himself for the White House. This man's greatest talent seems to be running for office. I need more than that. Come back when you've done something.
- His devotion to this country seems somewhat ambiguous. It's not just the lapel pin thing. It's not just that he had the American flag removed from his campaign jet. It's the lack of zeal for his country. If you are the President of the United States, you should have a sense of American Exceptionalism. Otherwise, go back to the University where equivocating is rewarded.
- His tax plans. They keep changing. And he promises, on his own campaign site, to give a bigger cut than Reagan. This is the thing that the Democrats have decried since Reagan was first elected. Therefore, I simply don't believe him. I believe he will go back on it just as Bill Clinton reneged on his middle class tax cut. It was all a sales job to win an election.
So, basically, it comes down to my perception that John McCain is simply a better man, and that Barack Obama promises a change that I cannot believe in. And I think I'm right.
