If you have done someone wrong, and you have done what you can to “make it right,” there is no guarantee that the person you harmed will actually forgive you. They may hold it against you for the rest of their lives. They may even seek revenge. For them, forgiveness is optional, because it must come from their heart.
The heart of God is to forgive us of all our sins and declare us NOT GUILTY. We did not do anything to deserve this. God took the initiative when He gave His only son, Jesus, to take your punishment. Your NOT GUILTY verdict has been purchased and is waiting for you to claim. “…in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them…” (2 Corinthians 5:20).
You may have been told that, “Jesus is coming back, and boy is He mad!” But the fact is that the madness is ours if we do not accept the peace and safety we are offered. God has us surrounded with superior forces, and we are running out of time, but He offers us terms of reconciliation. And those terms include adoption into His family. “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12).
SO, if after you die you stand guilty before God, it will because you refused to take the deal He not only offered, but paid for with the death of His son, Jesus. Your guilt is optional. You do not have to be condemned.
